Please be aware that Lyyti is developed constantly and your view might not match 100% with the view described in this article.
There are three different registration modes in Lyyti: participants can register individually, with a companion or as a group. If you are a not too familiar with Lyyti yet, we would recommend starting with individual registration and as you get to know the system, you can move on the other registration modes. You can choose the mode on the Settings page.
Register individually
When participants register individually to the event, each participant fills in their own information. Lyyti manages each participant separately and everyone also receives a confirmation message. Generally, this is the easiest way for both the organiser and the participant.
If necessary, participants may register other people by the event's open registration link that can be shown on the thank-you page. Registrations done through that link will also add new individual participants to the event.
Register with a companion
If participants are allowed to bring a companion to the event, there is a separate question about it on the registration page. The companion is regarded as a regular participant in Lyyti, but they are linked to the actual participant that they are registering with. Companions cannot register to the event without the actual participant, so if the actual participant cancels the registration, both the participant and their companion will be marked cancelled.
As the organiser, you can ask different questions to the participant and to the companion. By default, companions are only asked for their first name and last name. The "Companion" is actually a separate participant type in Lyyti. If you are planning to allow participants to bring companions, please read more about participant types here.
Group registration
In group registration one person (contact person) registers an entire group and fills in every participant's information. The contact person can be one of the actual group members participating or they may simply be a contact person. Acting as a mere contact person is quite common when parents register their children or a secretary registers their boss for different events.
We recommend using group registration when it is of utmost importance to manage a certain group of registrants as one group in the event and its messaging. Team registrations are a good example of this. Another typical example would be ticket sales, where the contact person buys a number of tickets and they are only asked for the contact person's contact information. In this case, you would need to create tickets as participant types (ticket types) and delete all questions from the participants (ticket users) from the registration page. You can read more about participant types here.
If it is not especially important to manage a group of registrants as a group in Lyyti with a specific contact person, we recommend using individual registration. It is not advisable to select the group registration mode simply because "it sure would be nice if John could register Mary at the same time". For this purpose, use individual registration and inform registrants on the registration page, that they can register another person after they have first registered themselves.
