This article explains what participant types are and how to create them in Lyyti. A participant type can, for example, be a VIP guest or a speaker.
The article includes the following sections:
What are participant and ticket types?
Participant types allow you to create different participant categories for your event or target specific questions to a particular participant type. For example, at a trade fair, participant types may include organizers, exhibitors, speakers, and attendees. Different types of participants require collecting different kinds of information, setting different ticket prices, and communicating distinct messages, such as separate messages for speakers and attendees.
You can also define the event's capacities by participant type to ensure, for instance, that all members of a specific participant group can attend the event. You can also choose to activate a waiting list, which collects registrations by participant type.
Collecting participation fees
Participant types can also be used to collect participation fees for your event, functioning as ticket types. In this case, the registrant simply selects the appropriate participant or ticket type on the registration page, fills in their information, and proceeds to payment. You can also add other paid questions to the form if desired (see instructions for creating a paid event here).
Queueing is possible with participant types. A waiting list is created for each participant type, allowing the queue to operate independently for each category.
Create a participant type
Different participant types or ticket types (for paid events) can be defined on the event’s Settings page.
Select the correct setting under "This event has/does not have different types of participants."
You can add as many participant types to your event as needed—there is no upper limit. For paid events, participant types can also be marked as paid and used as ticket types (read more here).
It is possible to define separate capacities for each participant type. Additionally, you can activate a waiting list if you are using participant-type-specific capacities.

Public and non-public participant types
Use this setting to define which participant types are selectable by registrants (public) and which participant types are pre-assigned to specific registrants (non-public). Edit the visibility of a participant type by clicking the word Public. -
Capacity
You can adjust the capacity for each participant type by clicking Undefined next to the respective participant type. Alternatively, you can set an overall capacity for the event. Read more about capacities here.
Choosing a participant type from the registrant's perspective
The participant type selection is always shown to the registrant before the actual registration form questions. Only public participant types are visible, meaning non-public participant types will not appear for registrants accessing the event via an open registration link.
You can guide registrants by writing an introductory opening text for the participant type selection.
